Talk Only using the existing wiring to each unit. This limits you to go to the indoor in-unit station in order to speak to visitors. Advantage is no added monthly charge for Internet or Phone Line. Disadvantage is you don't see the visitor as there is no camera. Wiring must be in good working order for this to work. Requires a new lobby Intercom and new in-unit stations for each apartment/condo.
Talk Only using a Phone line that calls a phone number, either cell or landline. This is good as long as everyone has a phone. No cell phone required as this unit calls both cell and landlines. Advantage is tenants can be home or away as it can call cell phones. You can also program the phone to ring each resident so husband, wife, grown kids, roommates, etc can get their own intercom listing that calls only them. Disadvantage is you pay a phone bill each month and don't see the visitor as there is no camera. Initial cost is less but the monthly phone bill adds up.

Disadvantage is you pay an Internet bill each month and you have to use an app. This is similar to the RIng that is advertised all over the place. They offer an optional in-unit station that will work Initial cost is less but the monthly Internet bill adds up. If the Internet goes down, the intercom stops working. We use and recommend Doorbird (no added fees) for this as the other Butterfly mandates you to pay a monthly fee for them to maintain the unit. This is great if you have Internet already or plan to use for your security cameras.
